Converting MS Word 2000 Documents to HTML
Most of us are familiar with creating and saving documents in
Microsoft Word. Did you know that MS Word allows us to save documents as HTML
files? HTML is a language that is read by Web browsers such as Netscape and
Internet Explorer and contains all the instructions necessary to post
information on the World Wide Web.
Keep this tip in mind when you use MS Word as a
HTML editor. KEEP IT SIMPLE. All the fancy formatting, tabs, spacing, kerning,
etc. gets all garbled up when you save an MS Word document as HTML. So, keep it
simple and clean.
To save a word document as HTML, follow these steps.
-
Open any MS Word document that you want to prepare for the
Web.
-
Go to the File Menu and select "Save As Web Page".
-
-
Next in the Save As screen, type the name of your
file (e.g. assignment1). Make sure you see "Web Page" in the Save
as type box. Be sure to remember where you saved your file.

-
A message may appear claiming that if you continue you will
loose certain formatting characteristics. Click OK.
-
Exit MS Word. You have just created your first Web document.
